LADY ANN'S FOLLY: Chapter Eight - Part Nine

Hattie pulled the covers back off her father where he still lay fast asleep, deep in his drug stupor. Except he didn’t look anything like her father now.

He looked exactly like Nellie but dressed still queerly in his now oversized pyjamas. His hair was long and blond, his face thin, the nose and teeth a little oversized, his chin weak.

Hattie shook her head, amazed, then went into action, very carefully pulling the pyjama bottoms off her father’s legs. Extremely baggy now, they came off clean and easily. Hattie quickly climbed into them herself, relieved to finally cover up the disgusting organ hanging off her crotch. It was far better out of sight.

Her father hadn’t yet stirred at all but she was extra careful as she unbuttoned his pyjama shirt. Getting him out of that was scarier but as she rolled him first one way then the other she realised just how far under he was. He was unlikely to awake for any reason.

Hattie put the pyjama shirt on herself, buttoning it up to the top and felt suddenly very disconcerted.

There was a dressing table with a tall mirror above it. She went to it as she tied the top button and looked at her image. She’d known what she was going to see but the reality of it was stunning. It really was her father looking back at her, fingering his handlebar moustache, running a stubby hand across his bald pate. But it made her chuckle.

She’d been so worried that everything would go wrong and she’d be stuck as a maid. Now she was in her father’s body nothing could go wrong. She was going to keep the pendant locked away where nobody could get it. There was no higher authority than her now. Nobody could tell her what to do. She was safe until she chose to end this scheme of hers, probably the following night when everyone was asleep again.

Her father was now naked on the bed. He’d stopped snoring. It made Hattie wonder if she would snore now that she was in his body. What an absurd and unsettling idea! But it was also hilarious.

She returned to the bed and even more carefully now, tilted her father’s upper torso upright then wrestled him into the nightie she’d worn into the room. When that was done, she pulled his new womanly underwear into place and stood back to examine her handiwork.

The young woman on the bed looked like an exact copy of Nellie the maid now. It was incredible that neither her father nor mother had woken. She worried she’d given them too strong a dose of the knockout drug but it couldn’t be helped now. She’d have to wait and see in the morning.

Hattie opened the bedroom door then went back to the bed and lifted her father up in her arms. His new body was light and her new arms were incredibly strong, despite the age of the body. It was no trouble at all.

She carried the sleeping form out of the room and to the back staircase. Listening for movement, Hattie carried the Earl up to the servant’s quarters, wondering what she would say if she was caught. She was, after all, the lord of the manor now. Nobody could tell her that what she was doing was wrong.

She crept into the maids’ room and turned back the covers. On the other side, Lottie stirred but didn’t waken. Hattie froze long enough to be sure it was safe then deposited her father into the bed of his new role in life.

She grinned down at his sleeping face then chuckled quietly and tucked him in, sneaking back out again.

Now she was in the clear she made her way back downstairs more brazenly, laughing to herself.

She had played an excellent trick on her father; she really had. Just wait until he woke up in the morning with no clue how he’d changed and no idea how to reverse it. Why, he might even end up wondering if he hadn’t just gone mad – that he wasn’t always a girl.

Hattie gave out a loud belly laugh there on the landing and then returned to the master bedroom chuckling away.

This was by far the funniest and cleverest thing she had ever done and it had gone off without a hitch.

She turned off the light, went over to the bed and with a moment’s hesitation, she got inside and pulled the covers up to her chin, laying her arms on top of the covers, only after a moment realising that was exactly how her father had lain.

That was a little disconcerting but she disregarded it. Again, she wasn’t planning to stay in this body any more than twenty four hours – just long enough to get the most out of her trick; then it would be back to their own bodies for her and her father, and the maid. She’d even put Ann, Mavis and Burt back into their rightful places. She’d put everyone back how they were meant to be then spend the rest of her life giggling over what she’d got up to.

But she wasn’t finished yet. She turned her head and looked at her mother, still fast asleep in the bed beside her.

Oh no. She still had something else to do before her little revenge plot was complete.

Hattie settled back into her pillow, ran her hand across her now bald head one more time, then closed her eyes and let herself start to drift into a very contented sleep.

  1. Mmmm.
Has Hattie considered that daddie might be a little "miffed" with her, if and when he is returned to his old self I wonder.

    1. Well he doesn't know it was her so however miffed he is he wouldn't know who to blame.

  2. 24 hrs isn't enough time for revenge do you think Hattie might extend her stay?

    1. Of course not. She's going to stick to her plan and everything will go perfectly.

    9. I actually like the Hattie/Earl swap best at the moment.

Nellie/Hattie is the least interesting and Ann/Mavis is probably my second favourite.

Ann/Burt used to be my favourite but that feels played out now on the whole.

    10. ann/burt is the classic, its probably wrong to compare it to contemporary fare. point taken with Nellie/Hattie, but in fairness it was more of a setup that, so far :), hasn't gone anywhere, but the earl...oh how much scope does Hattie have to "play" with her toys now. oh yes I "get" it.

    11. Earl/Nellie has some potential but isn't grabbing me yet.

Mavis/Ann is quite interesting - just because Mavis has the potential to mix things up a bit.

    2. Murphey's law doesn't apply in Lady Ann stories. Everything always goes exactly according to plan.

I'm actually thinking of renaming the series to something along the lines of... "How Ann's Plan Worked Perfectly and Didn't Doom Her and Her Family to be Trapped in Lives Not Their Own."

It might be a bit wordy like that so I may cut out a few words to make it easier to say. How about "Ann's Doom"?

    1. That was Hattie's point of view. Do you mean the new Hattie?

  5. LMAO - Hattie is so smugly self-satisfied and I must say at the moment things appear to be going just as she'd planned. The next few chapters are sure to be fun as Howard wakes up and learns what life is like as a maid. I wonder if Hattie truly understands the magic, and that her father going crazy and thinking he's always been Nellie is a possibility? lol Oh, the games we play . . . . I'm really enjoying this story Emma!
